Assistant Controller

Job Description

  • Manage daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and account reconciliations.
  • Lead and support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close activities to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant financial reporting.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls to protect company assets and ensure financial accuracy.
  • Oversee cost accounting activities, including standard costing, inventory valuation, production cost analysis, and variance reporting.
  • Partner with operations and manufacturing teams to analyze production costs, labor efficiency, material usage, and operational performance.
  • Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and strategic analysis.
  • Support external audits by preparing documentation, responding to auditor requests, and ensuring compliance requirements are met.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local financial regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
  • Develop and implement accounting best practices and process improvements.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor accounting team members as assigned.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support business decisions.

 
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience, including 2–3+ years in a manufacturing environment.
  • CPA certification.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting principles, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as Plex, SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms
  • Strong understanding of banking processes, financial analysis, and accounting systems.
  • Experience with inventory accounting, manufacturing costs, and operational performance analysis.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations and compliance reporting.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data analysis and reporting functions.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to make sound business decisions.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across departments.
